SUMMARY:

Among the characteristic aspects of Brazilian Portuguese, the diversity in the phonetic-phonological field stands out, a phenomenon that makes up the different linguistic varieties representative of each region of the country. This diversity in the language is often reflected in the learning of writing, so that it is common, when the students are learning to read and write, the occurrence of orthographic deviations caused by the “lack of correspondence between the phoneme system and the grapheme system” (CALLOU; LEITE , 1995, p. 45). One of the phonetic-phonological phenomena that affects the learning of the standard spelling in Brazil is the vocalization of the lateral consonant /l/ in the final position of a syllable (coda), as in saltar [w] and Brasil [w], which occurs in the speech of most states in the country (CALLOU; LEITE; MORAES, 2007), including Rio de Janeiro, where this research is carried out. To solve spelling issues, we can use the morphological component of grammar, as guided by the National Curricular Parameters (BRASIL, 1998) and the National Curricular Common Base (BRASIL, 2017). In this sense, this project seeks to develop strategies, through the phonology and morphology interface, that favor the teaching and learning of the use of the graphemes l and u at the end of a syllable. It is argued that a systemic teaching, which leads the student to understand when he will use a grapheme or another according to morphological aspects, generates a permanent skill, since it is not a merely mechanical process, based only on memorization.
