Agronomic Performance of Eggplant in Pots with Organic Substrate Under Fertigation with Wastewater from Dairy Cattle Farming
Solanum melongena L.. Protected cultivation. Water efficiency. Sustainability.
Agronomic Performance of Eggplant in Pots with Organic Substrate Under The production of vegetables in soilless systems, using sustainable organic substrates and fertirrigation with wastewater from dairy farming (ARBL), is an efficient and environmentally responsible alternative, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These systems allow greater control over water and nutrient use, reduce dependence on synthetic fertilisers and minimise environmental impacts, such as soil and water contamination. This project aims to evaluate the agronomic performance of eggplant grown in pots with composted substrate and fertilised with ARBL, characterising the physical and chemical properties of both inputs and determining the ideal doses for the crop. Two experiments will be conducted under protected conditions, in the autumn-winter and spring-summer periods, at the Km 47 Agroecological Farm (Seropédica-RJ), using the Ciça cultivar. The parameters analysed will include productivity, fruit quality, nutrient accumulation and system efficiency. It is expected to prove the technical feasibility of ARBL as a fertiliser, offering a replicable model for sustainable horticulture, with reduced costs and environmental impact, contributing to SDGs 2, 6, 12, 13 and 15. The results will be published in a high-impact scientific journal, strengthening the technical basis for circular agriculture.
