Methodology for removing some classes of pesticides from surface water through the ozonation process: identification and quantification by GC-EM/EM.
pesticides, drink water, ozone, environment, herbicide, insecticide, fungicide.
Brazil is one of the largest consumers of pesticides worldwide. The use of these chemical compounds in agriculture causes serious problems to the environment, such as contamination of surface, underground and spring waters used in the supply of potable water. The objective of the study will be to evaluate the pesticide removal as: acephate, aldrin, atrazine, boscalid, chlorpyrifos, chlorothalonil, deltamethrin, dichlorvos, malathion and trifluralin in contaminated surface water with known concentrations. The methodology is based on an advanced oxidation system with application of ozone, in different reaction times, with identification and quantification of compounds and their degradation products by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. As a result, it is expected that the technique of ozonation in contaminated water is successful, reaching a removal percentage of 100% at lower concentrations, commonly found in surface water, and from 80 to 100% at higher concentrations at experimental levels.
