SUMMARY:

In Brazil, water erosion is one of the main forms of degradation of agricultural soils, culminating in reduced crop yields, acidification of soils, reducing their capacity to store carbon, nutrients and water, among others. One of the main causes of this type of erosion is inadequate soil management, triggering a series of erosive factors, characterized by runoff and soil loss at various stages. More advanced stages form gullies.  To understand how the soil of these degraded areas behaves, physical, chemical and microbiological attributes are presented as indicators of the formation and stabilization in the processes of soil erosion in its different stages. Allied to this, the study of soil spatial variables can assist in understanding this process through remote sensing techniques and the use of geotechnologies. Few studies evaluate soil microbiological attributes - a crucial edaphic component for maintaining its sustainability - in environments degraded by water erosion. In view of the need to provide subsidies for the understanding and monitoring of degradation processes, due to the lack of works that demonstrate the influence of pedoforms on erosion processes, this research project emerges as an alternative, in the evaluation of the degree of degradation and development of projects for the recovery of degraded areas. The hypothesis that will be tested is that the physical, chemical and microbiological attributes of the soil vary according to the formation and stabilization of the gullies. The choice of gullies will be made with the aid of Google Earth with validation in the field. Four gully features will be selected, divided into thirds. The collection of 4 simple samples will be carried out to make up a composite, collected in an irregular grid on the internal and external faces. The following analyzes will be performed: physical (granulometry of sand, clay and silt - soil density - particle density - total porosity);  chemical (pH in water - Exchangeable cations (Ca, Mg, Al) - Potential acidity (H+Al) - Potassium (K) - Sodium (Na) - Available phosphorus (P) - Total cation exchange capacity (T) - Base saturation (V%) - Aluminum saturation (𝐴𝑙3+) - Total organic carbon (TOC) and its fractions - particulate organic carbon (COP) - organic carbon associated with minerals (COAM) - oxidized carbon (POXC)); Microbiological (Basal respiration - Microbial and metabolic quotient - Microbial biomass carbon - Enzyme activity - Assessment of AMF abundance and diversity and Quantification of glomalin-related soil protein); and spatial variables (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) - Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) and the Leaf Area Index (LAI)).The data will be submitted to analysis of normality of error distribution and homogeneity of variances, multivariate through cluster and principal component analysis (PCA), similarity or dissimilarity between the stages of formation and sampling sites. At the end, it is expected to identify the physical, chemical and microbiological patterns and spatial variables that characterize the gullies in their different stages of formation and stabilization, as well as to estimate the volume of soil lost.
