SUMMARY:

Forest fragmentation is one of the main vectors of biodiversity loss in anthropized landscapes, particularly in the Atlantic Forest, where remnants are highly isolated, affecting gene flows and essential ecosystem services. In the municipality of Nova Iguaçu (RJ), especially in the Serra de Madureira region, urban expansion has intensified the disconnection between forest fragments and rural areas, impacting the ecological resilience and water security of the Guandu Basin. Given this, this study aims to plan ecological corridors along the Ipiranga and Cabuçu rivers, in order to promote structural and functional connectivity between fragments of the Atlantic Forest and agricultural areas, articulating environmental conservation, agroecological practices, and sustainable rural development. The methodology integrates remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), landscape ecology metrics (FRAGSTATS), and modeling to identify priority areas for restoration and delineate riparian corridors. The study also includes a socio-environmental analysis of the rural settlements of Marapicu and Campo Alegre, characterizing land uses, agricultural practices, productive challenges, and infrastructure conditions. Expected results include the identification of agro-environmental risk zones, thematic maps of land use and land cover, connectivity indicators, priority areas for restoration, as well as guidelines for the implementation of agroecological practices and the restoration of riparian buffer zones. The integration of these results into municipal environmental planning aims to support public policies for conservation, sustainable management, and water security, contributing to the strengthening of family farming and the productive and ecological restoration of the Serra de Madureira. It is concluded that the planning of ecological corridors constitutes a strategic instrument to mitigate the impacts of fragmentation, expand landscape connectivity, and promote a socio-environmental transition aligned with the principles of sustainability and the multifunctionality of the territory.
