SUMMARY:

Forest fires constitute one of the main agents of environmental degradation in the Atlantic Forest, contributing to biodiversity loss, microclimatic changes, reduction of ecosystem services, and instability of rural production systems. In the Madureira Mountain Range, Nova Iguaçu/RJ, the intensification of fires over the last decades has promoted the replacement of forest formations with anthropogenic uses, increasing agro-environmental vulnerability and directly affecting family farming. This study aims to analyze, from a spatio-temporal and multi-scalar perspective, the dynamics of forest fires between 2000 and 2023, as well as their impacts on land use and land cover, with an emphasis on agricultural areas in the territory. The methodology integrates data from MapBiomas Fire and MapBiomas Land Use and Cover, multi-temporal analysis of burn scars, estimation of fire recurrence and frequency, classification of post-fire transitions, and spatial cross-referencing with productive sectors and Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs). Agro-environmental risk indicators, fire susceptibility maps, identification of resilient areas, and delimitation of critical zones for intervention and management will be produced. It is expected that the results will support public policies for prevention, monitoring, and ecological restoration, as well as guide sustainable management strategies and strengthen family farming in the Madureira Mountain Range, contributing scientifically to territorial planning and municipal environmental management.
