APPLICABILITY OF SODIS TECHNOLOGY TO MICROBIOLOGICAL QUALITY CONTROL OF WATER CONSUMED BY THE POPULATION FROM COLÔNIA JULIANO DE MOREIRA / RJ.
Solar disinfection, potability, water supply.
Solar Disinfection (SODIS) is a simple technology for inactivation of pathogenic microorganisms, which has a high potential for use in situations where it is not possible to apply conventional water treatment techniques. Several researches have demonstrated the efficiency of SODIS technology, which, by the concomitant action of temperature and UV solar radiation, provides the inactivation of viruses, bacteria, protozoa and fungi. The most important variables for the efficiency of SODIS are solar radiation, air temperature, climatic conditions in the exposure period, water turbidity, stored volume, storage container material and exposure time. The objective of this work was to evaluate the applicability of SODIS technology to control the microbiological quality of water used by residents of the Colônia Juliano Moreira / RJ area. In order to do so, a diagnosis was made of the conditions of the study site for water supply and sanitary sewage, the identification and georeferencing of the water catchment points (wells, springs, streams) used by the residents of the study area, verified the quantitative and qualitative aspects of the water consumed by the community and evaluated the applicability of simplified technologies such as direct filtration and SODIS technology as possible solutions to guarantee the microbiological quality of the water supply in the studied area.
