SUMMARY:

Due to a thriving agricultural sector, Brazil generates waste loads that exceed natural recycling and self-purification mechanisms, posing a challenge for environmental sanitation. The resulting wastewater presents suitable conditions as a culture medium for the production of microalgae, which, in addition to promoting bioremediation, allows for the obtaining of biomass capable of increasing soil fertility and crop yields. Microalgae biomass is considered a renewable and sustainable product, with the potential to reduce or replace the use of mineral fertilizers, favoring the circular bioeconomy. The objective of this project is to evaluate the efficiency of treating fish farming wastewater (FW) with the cultivation of Chlorella sp. microalgae, as well as the phytotechnical performance of vegetables produced using microalgae-based biofertilizer at different doses. The FW will be obtained from a commercial fish farm located in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro. Next, samples of the ARP will be characterized in triplicate regarding physical, chemical, and microbiological aspects. The microalgae will be cultivated in a photobioreactor, with monitoring of growth indicators and the CO2 biofixation rate. Regarding the soil used, it will be collected on the UFRRJ campus, at depths of 0-20 cm. Disturbed and undisturbed soil samples will be used for physical and chemical characterization, with 3 repetitions each. The microalgae biofertilizer will also undergo physical and chemical characterization, with samples in triplicate. The experiment will be conducted in a protected environment with plastic covering and shade cloth (50%), and the plants will be cultivated in pots filled according to the density of the natural soil, with the recommended organic chemical correction applied for the crop. A drip irrigation system will be set up, with acceptable uniformity of water application. The experimental design will consist of five treatments defined based on the recommended nitrogen fertilization for the crop and doses of microalgae biofertilizer: T0 – irrigation only; T1 – urea (100% of the recommendation); T2, T3, and T4 – doses of biofertilizer (50%, 100%, and 200% of the recommended dose, respectively). The crop's phytotechnical performance will be evaluated during and after cultivation, monitoring the morphological characteristics of development and biomass production. After the experiment, the residual chemical effect in the soil will be evaluated. The data will be subjected to analysis of variance and mean comparison using Tukey's test at a 5% probability level. It is expected that the results, by demonstrating the performance of bioremediation of fish farming wastewater and its impact on crop productivity, will provide methodological information and agronomic criteria to promote water reuse and the effective use of this biofertilizer.
