According to the Instituto Trata Brasil, the sanitation ranking (2019), based on data from the 2017 Water and Sewage Services Diagnosis base year, published by the National Sanitation Information System (SNIS), Brazil still has a great lack of Regarding sewage collection, considering the average of the hundred largest Brazilian municipalities in terms of inhabitants in 2017, the numbers reach 72.8% of the population served, however in comparison with the national average, there is a big difference, where we have only 52 , 4% of the population served by a sewage network. This research project aims to study the performance of bioclastic granulate filters (Lithothamnium calcareum), in pilot and real scales, to remove phosphorus and nitrogen as a tertiary stage of wastewater treatment.
