TITLE:

MANAGEMENT ALTERNATIVES FOR THE CONTROL OF THE SPECIES Euphorbia hirta L.

KEY WORDS:

Pre-emergent; Post-emergent; Anatomical characterization

PAGES: 81
BIG AREA: Ciências Agrárias
AREA: Agronomia
SUBÁREA: Fitotecnia
SPECIALTY: Matologia
SUMMARY:

The areas with Euphorbia hirta infestation are growing, especially in the central-western region of Brazil, due to the difficulty of control with the techniques normally used for the management of weeds. Because chemical control is the main management method, studies on alternatives to glyphosate, in pre- or post-emergence, that are effective for the management of the species are important. The objective of this work will be to evaluate the efficacy in the control of the species E. hirta, in pre and post-emergence of the species with isolated applications and in a mixture of herbicides. And also, present knowledge related to anatomical characterization of the stem and leaf of the species E. hirta. Three experiments will be conducted at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro - Seropédica / RJ. The first experiment (EI) will evaluate the efficacy of pre-emergent herbicides in controlling the species Euphorbia hirta, while the second (EII) will evaluate the efficacy of post-emergent herbicides isolated and in mixture for the control of the same species. And the third experiment (EIII) will study the anatomical characteristics of the stem and leaf of the species Euphorbia hirta. The EI and EII experiments will be done in duplicate. The EI will be conducted in a randomized block design, with four repetitions in a single-factor scheme. Nine pre-emergence treatments + control without application will be evaluated. Control will be performed at 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 days after the emergency (DAE) evaluation. At 42 DAE, residual effect, area part length (APL) and aerial part dry mass (APDM) evaluations will be carried out. The EII will be in two phenological stages (8 to 12 cm and 20 to 25 cm), each one conducted in a randomized block design, with four repetitions in a single-factor scheme. 29 post-emergency treatments + control without application will be evaluated. Control and transient fluorescence assessments of chlorophyll a will be performed at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 days after application (DAA). At 42 DAA, part length (APL) and aerial part dry mass (APDM) assessments will be carried out. For EIII, E. hirta samples will be processed following usual techniques under light microscopy. Quantitative data will be subjected to analysis of variance (p ≤ 0.05); and being significant, the averages will be compared by the Tukey test at 5% probability.
