KEY WORDS:

PAGES: 20
BIG AREA: Ciências Agrárias
AREA: Engenharia Agrícola
SUMMARY:
The swine wastewater (SWW) can be treated in organic filters which have physical action of retention and elimination of suspended solids.Sugarcane bagasse, wood sawdust, malt stand out as filtering media, which can reach an even more refined level of treatment, such as the retention of toxic elements. After being used in the filtration process, these residues need to be discarded, and a rational alternative is to use it as a raw material in composting.
The objective of this work is to evaluate the potential of charcoal in the adsorption of heavy metals and reduction of nitrogen losses during the composting of residues used as organic filtersfor the production of substrate. The aim is to contribute with a low-cost, fast and simple technology that aims to obtain a substrate for the production of an organic fertilizer that can be used in agriculture.
To assess the efficiency of the applied treatment, before and after the adsorption process, the compound will be subjected to physical and chemical analysis, where the following parameters will be evaluated:pH variation, temperature curve, mass loss and the content of heavy metals Cu and Zn.
In the composting process, charcoal obtained by pyrolysis will be used as adsorbent medium at three different temperatures, 300°C, 400°C and 500°C, sugarcane bagasse and corn cob bagasse, as a source of labile carbon.
The adsorbent media will be characterized in terms of moisture, dry mass; carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen contents, humic substances, global density, particle density and total porosity.
It is expected with this study to evaluate the efficiency of the composting process, using organic filters and sugarcane bagasse filtering material, used in the treatment of swine wastewater (ARS) and the addition of charcoal at three temperatures 300°C, 400°C and 500°Cwith the purpose of producing a substrate that contributes as an efficient and low-cost alternative in the stabilization of organic residues from the wastewater filtration process.
Additionally, the aim is for the final product of the composting process to result in a compost that can be used as an organic fertilizer or substrate for the production of seedlings.
