SUMMARY:

Through a continuing education course, this research project aims to enhance
the qualifications of History teachers in the municipal school network of Rio Bonito/RJ.
Considering the potential aspirations and challenges faced by this group, the objective is
to foster the concept of professionalism and teaching knowledge, with an emphasis on
teachers' autonomy and critical reflection on their practices. This research project is
justified by the scarcity of municipal public policies aimed at the continuing education of
History teachers in lower secondary education. The methodology is based on the concerns
of these professionals, which will be assessed through a survey conducted via Google
Forms. The goal is to provide municipal school teachers with a continuing education
course syllabus that aligns with the realities of their classrooms. The proposal seeks to
support them in addressing current challenges within the school environment, such as the
rise of scientific denialism and attacks on the democratic rule of law. It is expected that
this initiative will bring teachers closer to discussions in the field of History education,
fostering reflections and new approaches that help them rethink their classroom practices.
