Os locais da memória: possibilidades e desafios para o ensino da história local em Mangaratiba/RJ
History teaching; Local history; Mangaratiba; Historical education
This research proposal addresses the challenges and possibilities of teaching local history in the city of Mangaratiba, RJ, to elementary school students. The theme emerged from recurring questions that arise in my professional practice as a teacher in the municipal school system, where I notice that my students do not recognize themselves as part of history. Thus, the objective is to promote the teaching of Mangaratiba’s local history as a means to enhance students' recognition of themselves as historical subjects. I also aim to problematize the teaching of local history by highlighting its possibilities and challenges in the teaching-learning process, and to develop specific didactic material on the history of Mangaratiba, designed for elementary school teachers. Through this material, I seek to introduce the municipality’s history to students in a way that fosters identification with the city's past, allowing them to recognize themselves as integral parts of their local, national, and global history—capable of understanding temporal continuities and ruptures as well as the reality around them. Therefore, the proposal is justified by the need for pedagogical practices that value the memory of students’ communities and their individual histories. In this regard, the theoretical references aim to support concepts related to local history education, establishing a dialogue primarily with Fonseca (2006), Ciampi (2007), Bittencourt (2008), and Barca (2001), emphasizing the growing relevance this approach has gained in recent decades, along with its challenges and specificities. In order to apply these perspectives with my students in the classroom, I will conduct a bibliographic study complemented by documentary research, which will include the collection of historical and cultural materials about Mangaratiba. Based on this, I propose the development of didactic material to be used by teachers, intending to provide an educational resource that not only informs but also engages students in an active learning process.
