The times of the river: present pasts of Baixada Fluminense’s tupis in History teaching

The research addresses the topic of teaching the indigenous peoples’ history of Baixada Fluminense, (a region of municipalities in the sate of) Rio de Janeiro in Lower Secondary School and discusses why it is appropriate to incorporate it into temporalities learning. Making use of archeological sources as well as accounts of foreign travellers from the sixteenth century, such as Hans Staden and Jean de Léry, we will be able to create educational material for use by teachers in class. We aspire to auxiliate teachers in highlighting this less-known side of Rio de Janeiro’s history, as well as providing aids to temporalities teaching, and contributing in the development of human beings open to diversity, in accordance to Law No. 11.645/2008 (Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous History and Culture).
