Reclamation of degraded areas with cocoa agroforestry in MST settlements at the extreme south of Bahia.
Environmental recovery; Agroecology; Agroforestry Systems
In the extreme south of Bahia, forest areas have historically been deforested to
formation of pastures and/or agricultural production with intensive use of pesticides, which
has been causing a high level of environmental manipulation. Thus, there are settlements in the region
with hundreds of springs and other water resource environments, which are discussed
recovery, the Popular School of Agroecology and Agroforestry Egídio Brunetto
(EPAAEB) was developed in this territory of actions that boost processes of
awareness and recovery of degraded environmental areas with Landless families
based on the principles of agroecology. Therefore, this project aims to systematize and
follow the experience of recovering degraded areas in 2 MST settlements
(Landless Rural Workers Movement), from areas of natural regeneration
and implementation of agroforestry with planning of seedlings of native species and seedlings of
cocoa, aiming environmental recovery.
