SUMMARY:

An economic analysis will be conducted on the cultivation of 40 heirloom tomato accessions, belonging to the collection maintained by Prof. Antonio C. S. Abboud of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, under protected cultivation and an organic production system. The accessions were grown from May to October 2025 in two greenhouses (20 accessions of the cherry group and 20 of the salad group) at the Horto da Agrobiodiversidade in Maricá, RJ, as part of the Inova Agroecologia Maricá Project. Soil preparation included liming, organic fertilization, application of bioinputs, and differentiated cultivation management by varietal group, with drip irrigation and protective phytosanitary management with biological pesticides. Harvests, carried out every four days, will generate data for calculating productivity, gross margin, return on investment, profitability, and payback, in addition to defining a minimum price with a 30% profit margin. The aim is to provide producers with concrete information on costs and viability, encouraging the cultivation of heirloom tomatoes as a high-value-added alternative, adapted to local soil and climate conditions, which contributes to seed autonomy, biodiversity conservation and the supply of pesticide-free food.
