The ornamental seedling production hub in Itaboraí has tradition and importance for the generation of jobs and income in the region. The location of the municipality, which is on the banks of RJ 104, facilitates transportation logistics to other regions of the State, mountainous region, lakes and metropolitan region. With the emergence of the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020, many people who stayed at home respecting social distance, decided to make their own garden, which led to an increase in activity by approximately 15%. Another important factor that adds value and enriches the presentation of the plants is the large number of pottery ceramics that exist in the same region. Despite having renowned institutions and state research bodies, such as PESAGRO- RIO, the state of Rio de Janeiro does not have major research in the field of floriculture, mainly in the production process. The traditional production system for seedlings is stem cuttings with the use, as a rule, of “ravine soil” (clayey) for rooting various species propagated in the region. For this reason, it is the purpose of this work to research the potential of other inputs as a basis for rooting beds, for cutting of stems and ornamental leaves. What can improve production, accelerate rooting, with environmental sustainability, use of a smaller area and contributing to greater efficiency and quality.
