Global warming has led to the need for countries to seek joint solutions to reduce anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. With the Kyoto Protocol, the possibility of offsetting emissions through the financing of initiatives that would have proven results in the reduction of these gases began. This possibility configured the formation of the global market for investments in initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which was called the carbon market. Emissions from the Agriculture and Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry sectors are quite expressive in Brazil, mainly due to the large Brazilian cattle herd and land use changes related to deforestation to open new areas for agriculture and livestock. . However, there is a great possibility of reversing the levels of emissions from these sectors, if practices such as integrated production systems, the intensification of livestock and the recovery of degraded areas through reforestation are adopted. In this context, family farms, which make up a large part of the number of rural properties in Brazil, can make a great contribution and also become attractive to the carbon market, because in small spaces of land, these farmers are able to produce a great diversity of food. , generally in integrated systems, and which can be amplified if agroecological or organic management is adopted. For this, the greenhouse gas emissions involved in the production processes of these areas must be quantified. Thus, this dissertation project aims at the elaboration of a greenhouse gas inventory protocol adapted for application in small rural properties, allowing to obtain a carbon calculator that better expresses the characteristics and specificities of family farms.
