SUMMARY:

The bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a crop of great importance in the Brazilian economy, both for its productive value and for its social function, being a source of income and subsistence for thousands of families. The improvement of common bean in Brazil is mainly based on the hybridization of cultivars or lines to generate segregating populations, in which the selection of superior lines is carried out. In this context, studies on genetic divergence can be of great importance because they provide estimates for the identification of parents that, when crossed, increase the chances of selection of superior genotypes in segregating generations, traditionally, the characterization of genotypes is based on morphological, heritable, easily visible and measurable markers, which, in principle, are expressed in all environments. Green manure is a practice that aims to improve poor soil and conserve productive soil, the use of green manures is a practice that contributes to maintaining the balance of nutrients in the soil and increasing its fertility in agroecological production systems. The objective of this work is to evaluate the genetic divergence in genotypes by means of morphological and molecular markers and later to analyze the efficiency of green manure in the cultivation of common beans of different commercial types of grains. Two experiments will be conducted. Experiment I is being conducted in the field sector of the Department of Entomology and Phytopathology, Institute of Biological and Health Sciences, UFRRJ, Seropédica, RJ. At the end of this experiment, genetic divergence will be estimated by means of morphological descriptors and molecular markers among 32 common bean genotypes. The means will be grouped by the Scott-Knott test at 5% probability. For divergence analysis using qualitative and quantitative characteristics, the genetic distance will be obtained by means of the Gower algorithm. For analysis via molecular markers, the Jaccard distance will be used. The Tocher Optimization and Hierarchical UPGMA (Unweighted Pair Group Method using Arithmetic Averages) clustering will be used. Experiment II will be conducted at the Agroecological Farm Km 47, Seropédica, RJ. Three common bean genotypes (C1- Dark Red; C2- Black Fazendinha; and C3- Carioca) will be evaluated in two types of green manure (A1- Control; A2- Crotalaria; A3- Mucuna). Nine treatments will be evaluated (Factorial 3 x 3). Cover crops will be grown in the no-till system during the rainy season. Common beans will be grown in the straw of the cover crops. Planting will take place in April 2025. The means will be compared by Tukey's test at 5% probability. The two experiments are expected to select parents for crosses to obtain segregating generations in order to identify superior genotypes for organic cultivation. In addition, to verify if there are differences in the agronomic performance of different genotypes in relation to two types of green manure.
