RESUMO:

For many years in the Ribeirão das Furnas microbasin in the municipality of Aiuruoca, MG, the natural and formed pasture managed according to the perception that the oldest populations had on it was the only source of food for the dairy herd, but in the last decades, while there were important scientific advances on the production and management of biomass and the more rational management of pastures under specific edaphoclimatic conditions, there was also a great lack of interest on the part of the current heirs of these lands on this resource. The absence of stimulus or even the absence of the extension organs and the difficulty of access of these producers to the information on the different forage species and of the cover of the soil ended up in a certain way accentuated and collaborating with soil degradation and the decline of the potential of the pastures, an indispensable resource for the continuity of the activity, this lack of more adequate management of the pastures has as one of its results the increase of interest by a large number of producers in the external inputs such as the crumbs that end up raising considerably the costs producers in a situation of extreme vulnerability in many cases. In this scenario, the present study aims to evaluate and share among the family farmers of the Furnas Neighborhood Association and Furnas de Cima, the results of the agronomic performance and the biomass production potential of 7 forage species and the winter soil cover , in different systems of single crop and intercropping, using animal traction plowing for soil preparation since the region is typically mountainous and the use of tractors in many cases is impossible or at least inadvisable. The experiment will be conducted in a region with an average altitude that exceeds 1,000 meters in an area of amortization of the State Park of Serra do Papagaio, MG.
