RESUMO:

The cultivation of passion fruit is expanding both for the production of fruits for consumption "in natura" and for the production of juice. Brazil is the world's leading producer of passion fruit, which is why it is justified to seek improvements in the system of organic cultivation of this crop in order to improve productivity and facilitate management for small farmers. The objective of this project is to evaluate the effect of different types of soil cover on the passion fruit crop. The experiment will be set up in a small rural property located in the municipality of Seropédica, RJ, under organic management. Four mulching treatments will be evaluated. The treatments will be composed of double-faced polypropylene cover, coconut fiber, the combination of both materials or uncovered soil. Coconut fiber is a residual product of the production of coconut water prepared and bottled in the property, sold in the Circuit Carioca of Organic Fairs, generating an average of two tons / month of this by-product. This material if not properly composted or reused on the property will cause serious damage to the environment. Thus, it is intended to demonstrate the economic feasibility of using coconut fiber residue and the efficiency of mulching for the organic production of yellow passion fruit in consortium with the dwarf coconut. Evaluations of vegetative characteristics will begin one month after planting and reproductive characteristics as soon as flowering begins. There will be evaluations of the first and second harvest of passion fruit, respectively, early next summer and late fall of 2019.
