SUMMARY:

In 2020, the world faced the pandemic of the new coronavirus, the causative agent of severe acute respiratory syndrome (covid-19) that has already infected more than 3 billion people worldwide. Social isolation was the measure adopted to curb the spread of the disease that had an impact on agro-industrial chains. For family farmers who made direct sales, the sudden interruption of the operation of fairs and other channels, led to the search for strategies for the flow of production. In Seropédica, a city in the Baixada Fluminense region of Rio de Janeiro, an e-commerce system was developed with the support of UFRRJ and Emater-Rio. The “Family Farming Basket Fair” started operating in April 2020 and involved agro-ecological and organic farmers with the offer of fresh and processed foods. The present study aims to investigate how the pandemic impacted family farming in Baixada Fluminense (RJ) in the view of farmers and rural extension workers who work in that territory; understand the contribution, potential and limitations of the Family Agriculture Basket at UFRRJ under the perception of farmers / marketers and consumers; analyze gross sales, supply and sales balance in the period from April to December 2020. A descriptive survey will be carried out. Data collection will be carried out through interviews, questionnaires and analysis of the basket's commercialization reports.
