SUMMARY:

This project aims to evaluate the vegetative development of seedlings of 20 species of native plants of the Atlantic Forest in the upper and lower third of a toposequence. The experiment will be conducted on a property located in the Northern Fluminense Region of the state of Rio de Janeiro, at coordinates 21°26'24.46 S and 41°20'40.10" W. This area is located in the Campelo Sub-basin of the Azurara stream microbasin. To develop this study, 12 seedlings of each of the 20 species will be planted in each plot, in 6 blocks. With this sampling intensity, it will be possible to conduct a detailed analysis of the effect of the species and the two relief positions on plant growth, ensuring sufficient replications to ensure the reliability of the results. This study will collect and perform physical and chemical analyses of soil samples in the blocks, at depths of 0.0 m-0.20 m, 0.20 m-0.40 m and 0.40 m-0.60 m, in the lower and upper third of the toposequence, according to the EMBRAPA methodology (2017). The growth parameters of the seedlings will also be evaluated, including height, stem diameter and crown diameter, with measurements scheduled for the end of the dry season, in October 2024 and October 2025. In addition, the survival of the seedlings will be analyzed, as well as the soil coverage rate. This study is expected to define which of the 20 native tree species of the Atlantic Forest analyzed will have the best development rates in relation to the different relief positions for the Campos dos Goytacazes region and thus prepare a booklet about these species most suitable for the recovery of degraded areas in the region studied.
