SUMMARY:

The work deals with carrying out a cowpea [Vigna unguiculata L. (Walp)] cultivation experiment, in a school and organic garden at a public school located in the municipality of Belford Roxo, RJ. The proposal to create the garden emerged from the observation of the socioeconomic conditions of the students and their families, especially the low income that places them in a situation of food insecurity. The main objective of the experiment is to observe how planting cowpea, on a small scale, can provide students at the school with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Sustainability and Food Education content. As well as encouraging the practice of organic agriculture in home spaces by teaching techniques for production in small spaces, such as garden beds. The experiment will be carried out in five beds measuring five meters long and 80 centimeters wide each, which occupy a total area of 20m2. The soil in the experimental area was classified as having a medium texture in beds 1,2,3 and 5 and with a clayey texture in bed 4. Inoculation will take place using a preparation of nodulated roots and the experiment will be conducted from January to June 2025. A cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. (Walp)) experimente will be carried out in public school located in the municipality of Belford Roxo, RJ. The proposal to create the garden arose from the observation of the socioeconomic conditions of the students and their families, mainly from low-income families that place them in a situation of food insecurity. The experiment's main objective is to cultivate cowpea in a small area to provide students with a deeper understanding of Sustainability and Food Education, as well as encourage the practice of organic agriculture in home backyards through teaching techniques for production in small spaces. The experiment will be carried out in beds 1 m wide and 15 m long, separated by a 1 m street, occupying a total area of 126 m2. The soil of the experimental area was classified as medium texture or clayey texture. Inoculation will be carried out using a preparation of fresh nodules macerated in 3 dilutions, an uninoculated control, and inoculation with two commercial strains BR 3267 and BR 3262. Two experiments will be carried out during 2025: EXP. 1 during the first semester, which will be conducted until 45 days after planting (DAP), and EXP.2, in the second semester, which will consist of 2 collections at 45 DAP and at the end of the cycle. The experimental design will be in completely randomized blocks consisting of 6 treatments and 5 repetitions. The normality of the residuals (Shapiro-Wilk test) and the homogeneity of the residual variances (Bartlett's test) will be determined. Then, the data will be submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the means compared by the Tukey test.
