THE "PLANTING THE FUTURE" PROGRAM AT SERRA DO ESPINHAÇO, MINAS GERAIS - TREES SPECIES GROWING MONITORING AND FORESTRY CARACTERIZATION
Land reclamation, Cerrado, Weed competition
The Cerrado Biome has great importance for the conservation of water resources and biodiversity. Recent studies show that 50% of the area of this biome is degraded (Silva, 2002). In this context, actions and measures to recover degraded areas are essential to overcome the various environmental challenges . The "Planting Future" is a program of the Minas Gerais states that is seedlings planting of several forest species in selected regions, aiming the recovery of degraded areas. The present work has as objective to make a survey and evaluation of the plantations realized in the region of Serra do Espinhaço near the municipality of Serro.
