SUMMARY:

In organic grain production systems, one of the main limiting factors for obtaining productivity that contributes to economic sustainability is the control of spontaneous plants. Control possibilities are scarce and, in the case of manual weeding, extremely painful and inefficient. The objective of this project is to evaluate the control of spontaneous plants in bean cultivation, through intercropping with black oats, at high density, under organic management. The hypothesis is that oats (Avena strigosa) can inhibit or disfavor the development of spontaneous plant species that have potential to compete with beans, under organic management. The experiment will be carried out in the Contestado Settlement (Lapa/PR). The experimental design will be randomized blocks, with four replications and five treatments, totaling 20 plots. The following variables will be evaluated: number of spontaneous plants, with emphasis on Brachiaria plantaginea, total number of spontaneous plants, bean grain yield and mass of one hundred grains. The first assessment of the population dynamics of the spontaneous plants will take place 17 days after the emergence of the bean plant, the second at 60 days and the last at harvest, at 90 days, when the productivity of the bean plant will also be evaluated and the mass of one hundred grains of this crop will be determined. The results will be subjected to the F test and the Tukey mean comparison test. The information generated will contribute to the efficient management of organic plants in the organic grain production system, with the possibility of observation and discussion of the experience during field days, in addition to the publication of technical material with support for the formulation of a technical text for organic grain production.
