SUMMARY:

The tomato plant is a herbaceous one whose fruits are fleshy and succulent. They appear in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. Despite being a highly consumed product, there are numerous difficulties in its production, mainly in relation to the attack of pests, diseases, and the incidence of physiological anomalies, which makes tomato the second largest crop in the use of pesticides. Organic agriculture has proven to be a promising practice for reducing the use of pesticides, as well as reducing environmental contamination. However, it is necessary to develop cultivars that are more suitable for this type of management. Taking into account the above, the present study aims to study the physical-chemical and morpho-agronomic characteristics of special tomatoes (heirlooms), under organic production management. The trial is being carried out in a greenhouse from May to October 2025. The greenhouse is located in the experimental area of the State Center for Organic Research (CEPAO) of the Agricultural Research Corporation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (PESAGRO-RIO), located in Seropédica, State of Rio de Janeiro. The characteristics studied will be: 18 morpho-agronomic descriptors, productivity, number of total fruits, commercial and non-commercial, pulp thickness, number of locules, longitudinal diameter, equatorial diameter of the fruits, total soluble solids-SST (oBrix), pH and consumer preference test. The experimental design used was randomized blocks with three replicates, and each replicate consisted of four plants, using a spacing of 1.00 by 0.50 meters, totaling an area of 240 m2 with 464 plants. The seedlings were produced in polypropylene trays with 128 cells each. When the seedlings presented 2 pairs of definitive leaves, they were transplanted to the experimental area. After transplanting, the usual crop management was followed, with weeding in order to reduce the growth of invasive plants. The production system adopted was organic management and the irrigation system used was drip irrigation, with watering carried out according to the crop's water needs. It is expected that the collection will present great phenotypic variability in terms of morphoagronomic characteristics and that it will become an economically promising alternative for organic producers.
