RESUMO:

The commercial cultivation of hops is relatively new in Brazil if we compare with European countries such as Germany and North America (mainly United States of America), which are the main producers and exporters of pelleted hops, whose main market is the sector brewer. In Brazil, the importance of the feminine flower of this plant, called cone, used fresh form, for artisan beer brewing, gained spaces in the municipalities of the south and southeast regions, mainly with reports on the discovery of a Brazilian variety of hops in the Serra of Mantiqueira granted by the agronomist and hop producer Rodrigo Veraldi Ismael in the municipality of São Bento de Sapucaí, SP, including one of them was subject of the Globo Rural program on 05/29/2016. In the state of Rio de Janeiro, hop growing has been gaining area in municipalities in the mountainous region, particularly Nova Friburgo and Teresópolis, interested to attend the domestic demand of artisanal breweries. In addition, with the launch of rural credit to finance this crop in the state, the cultivated area should increase. In contrast, phytosanitary problems associated with this crop have already been detected by producers and technicians who assist them, but there is no technical-scientific record of the pests associated with this crop in Brazil in the literature. However, key pest species of hops grown in other countries are known, some of which occur in Brazil associated with other agricultural crops. In this context, this project will be developed with the following objectives: (1) to identify the species of phytophagous arthropod fauna (insects and mites) associated with hops in organic crops in the municipalities of Cachoeira de Macacu, Nova Friburgo and Teresópolis; (3) establish the population fluctuation of phytophagous arthropod fauna during the phenology of hops culture, after the dormancy stage until the beginning of the harvest, and (4) determine the phytophagous species of arthropod fauna that occur in the stage vegetative (initial pests) and those that are specific to the reproductive stage (late pests). It is hoped at the end of this work to generate subsidies for the recognition of the main key pests of hops and to establish their population fluctuation in order to assist in the development of monitoring techniques and control measures to be adopted by hops producers in these municipalities of Rio de Janeiro state.
