African games in an ethnomathematical perspective as a possible strategy for a democratic and antiracist education

Racism is a problem of a social nature that is structured in our society, as we can see on violence statistics regarding black people. School, as a social institution, must be a critical and inclusive environment. Following this stream of thought, the present piece utilizes the law 10.639/03 about the inclusion and the obligation of “Afro-Brazilian History and Culture” theme in school environment and seeks to bring Ethnomathematics as a methodological tool, through a sequency of activity with the African game Shisima in school, aiming as its objective, a more critical mathematics that intends to value african history and culture. Using a descriptive qualitative methodology, this research chases a deeper understanding about actions on school environment. Due to a situation experienced by the author, in which a teacher had never heard about Ethnomathematics, the following work presents the transcription of a documentary video made by the researcher himself containing a discussion about racism in school. The african game Shisima will be used as a methodological tool in order to propose an inclusive, democratic and antiracist education.
