CONSTRUCTION OF THE FRACTION CONCEPT: LOOKS THROUGH FOLDING
Fractions, Folding, Geometric Drawing
The study of rational numbers in the school period of Basic Education is a recurrent subject in research
because it is a theme that still lacks understanding and assimilation in relation to the concept of fractions.
This research intends to carry out a pedagogical approach on the construction of the concept of fraction
through the construction of two kits using folding as an origami technique and, when necessary, resorting
to geometric design mechanisms with teaching instruments. The methodology used in the research refers
to the bibliographical survey, construction and execution of investigative/exploratory activities, named
Design Based Research (DBR) that seeks through interactions and sharing a structured didactic sequence
in the construction of kits in square and circle geometric figures that were developed with the students to
understand the part/whole relationship. The activities were carried out with Mathematics graduates from a public
University in Baixada Fluminense in the state of Rio de Janeiro. For data collection, a field diary was used,
the meetings recorded in audios, photos, and the answers of the cards with the activities on fractions using
the kits. argue and solve the proposed circumstances about the concept of fraction. With the elaboration of an
educational product, on the YouTube platform for posting video lessons that can help teachers and other
professionals involved in the teaching area.
