Comics, Fanzines and Ethnomathematics in the experiences of students at a high school.
Mathematics Education; Comic Books; Fanzine; Ethnomathematics; Experiences.
Due to the questions asked by students about how the contents presented during a
mathematics class are represented in tasks and situations present in their daily lives, we
seek, through the use and creation of comic books and fanzines, the construction of an
educational product that be a link between school mathematics and the mathematics
present in the experiences of these students. The main objective of this work is to
encourage students to develop the script, create and produce comic books/fanzines as an
unconventional method of reporting their ethnomathematical experiences related to
events in their daily lives. To do this, they must report, discuss and analyze this episode,
highlighting their daily experiences (with family, friends, at work, in leisure time, etc.),
thus signaling some art or technique that is related to school mathematics. The research
was carried out through eight meetings with students from 1st year and 2nd year high
school classes with a focus on the Entrepreneurship Itinerary, at the school unit school
support association Centro Integrado de Educação Pública (CIEP) 356 Augusto Ruschi,
located in Nova Iguaçu, Baixada Fluminense – RJ. The methodological perspective is
qualitative, phenomenological and exploratory in nature, classified as action research.
Data production will occur through written records present in storyboards, comic books
and fanzines produced by students. This data will be recorded through photographs and
the researcher's field diary. The records will be analyzed after the conclusion of each
meeting so that changes and adjustments can be suggested at the next meeting to
improve the final quality of the educational product proposed for this research. The
methodological strategy to be developed and applied with students will support the
creation of pedagogical material with the suggestion of a didactic sequence on various
mathematics contents developed during meetings with students. The relative theoretical
framework we adopted in this research will support practice by serving as a guideline
for the scripting, creation and production of comics/fanzines. The educational product
will be aimed at Basic Education teachers and provided free of charge in databases and
repositories.
