HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS DISCUSS FEATURES OF DECIMAL NUMBERSdecimal numbers; Euler number; calculatorThis research proposes to investigate how students position themselves in contexts that involve real numbers in their different decimal forms using the calculator, seeking, in particular, to reflect on problem situations that occur with exact / approximate, infinite decimal numbers. / finite and periodic / non periodic.
This work will take place in the year 2019, in a private school located in the city of Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro involving a 2nd year high school class. The objectives of this dissertation are based on "how" and "why" in relation to the students' position regarding the proposed problem, so this work has a qualitative nature, using the case study.
Through analyzes made in bibliographic research on the Euler Number, it was concluded that there are few sources about this irrational. In addition, it has also been found that textbooks, in almost their entirety, mention the Number and only by displaying their decimal value of 2.718281…. Taking as a motivation this gap perceived in the research conducted, we outline the strategy of exploring Real Numbers in their decimal form, starting from Rational Numbers in their decimal form, in order to reach the numbers that do not have periodic patterns in their tithes, and Thus, reaching the group of Irrationals through situations that stimulate the student to think freely about this numerical field.
