RESUMO:

This research addresses the relevance of the knowledge of Spherical Trigonometry (TE) in the formation of graduates of the Bachelor of Nautical Sciences course, offered by the Admiral Graça Aranha Instruction Center (CIAGA), located in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro State. January. The problem of the dichotomy between theoretical and practical knowledge will be investigated through curricular analysis, the analytical programs of the course subjects, covering the period 2018 to 2019, and the observation of students enrolled in the Spherical Trigonometry and Orthodromic Navigation (TEO-1) discipline. This issue has been widely discussed by professionals in the field; some consider that the teaching of spherical trigonometry can be removed from the curriculum without prejudice to training, taking into account technological innovations in the naval environment; others consider it still relevant. It is also observed that students have difficulties in making the relationship between theoretical and practical knowledge, and question the presence of TE content and the TEO-1 subject in the curriculum. Therefore, it is intended to identify the connections of the theoretical knowledge of Spherical Trigonometry, with other disciplines of a practical nature that make up the curriculum of this course, and to demonstrate their contributions to the formation of graduates and to their future professional practice. As a product, a didactic sequence will be elaborated accompanied by appropriate didactic material (handout or book) that can contribute to overcoming the dichotomy theoretical and practical knowledge in the teaching and learning process in the CIAGA Bachelor of Nautical Sciences course.
