RESUMO:

The didactic approach of the irrational numbers in textbooks always presents itself from some examples without, however, discussing the specific characteristics and that differentiates them from the other numbers worked up until then. This is to address two irrational numbers in particular, the fi and pi numbers, for which tasks are elaborated in which students need to compare measures and calculate their value by approximations and comparisons between different measures. In this sense, this research aims to discuss and analyze the dialogues and written productions of elementary school students about the construction of these numbers in a context of exploratory activities. Its focus is on the construction of the concept of students of Basic Education and aims to subsidize the work of teachers who want to follow an alternative proposal of teaching mathematics and stimulate them to perceive the relevance of the theme. The research methodology is based on the Design Based Research (DBR), based on a bibliographical survey that consists of: two official documents, the National Curricular Parameters and the National Curricular Common Base, articles that deal with the subject and a survey in books used in the school in which the research will be developed. Next we elaborate the tasks that will be implemented for a group of students of the 9th year of the Elementary School of a public school. After preparing the first version of the tasks, these are applied and their answers analyzed in order to verify whether they need to be revised or not. Data collection will be done through the researcher's field diary, activity sheets and recorded audio and video of the group work. The analysis is oriented in the construction of the concept of irrational numbers and will consider the referral given by the group and the strategies used by the students to solve the problem. The research predicts two great moments: the first, in which one seeks to understand the profile of students from a task called a brainstorm and the re-elaboration of tasks thought in a first version, the second predicts, from the analysis, a didactic guide , for teachers. In any case, this research aims to recover, irrespective of errors and correctness, the pleasure to study and stimulate the curiosity of adolescents to study mathematics.
