NON-SCHOOL SPACES IN CHEMICAL TEACHER TRAINING: BRAZILIAN SOIL MUSEUM (UFRRJ) CONTRIBUTIONS TO BUILDING TEACHER KNOWLEDGE
non-formal space, non-school space, chemistry teaching, knowledge production, teaching-learning, scientific dissemination.Science museums are spaces dedicated to the dissemination and scientific education, and have their
own way of developing their educational dimension, differing from formal forms of education such as those taught
in school, and experimental information, using them according to the family (MARANDINO 2008). These places
become increasingly relevant, without reference to Science Education, dealing with scientific themes in a more
contextualized approach and contributing to the process of scientific literacy. However, due to the particularities
researched, research shows that chemistry is a less representative area of knowledge in science museums
(ALMEIDA, ROCHA, OLIVEIRA, 2015; PINTO, 2007). Considering this scenario of chemistry in museums, we
identified in the Soil Museum of Brazil of UFRRJ a space with great potential of use for the construction of chemical
knowledge. The UFRRJ Soil Museum of Brazil was founded in 2012 through the initiative of teachers of the
Department of Soils (Institute of Agronomy), presents in its project possibilities to develop, in an interdisciplinary
way, conceptual constructions in the field of Chemistry, since the soil is characterized by its physical and
chemical properties. Such approach comprises knowledge that can range from Basic Education to Higher
Education. From this perspective, the present work aims to analyze the exhibitions of the Soil Museum of Brazil
of UFRRJ, identifying the chemical concepts contemplated through the presented materials (collection). Such
concepts will be problematized from the mediation between the teachers of the soil area, responsible for the
museum project, and the undergraduate students in Chemistry Degree who attend the Chemistry Teaching 1
and Chemistry Teaching 2 course at UFRRJ. Based on qualitative methodology we intend to analyze in the
discourses developed during and after the visit, the conceptions of the students of the Degree in Chemistry,
regarding the production of knowledge in these spaces. This research intends to elaborate an educational
product characterized as “Thematic Unit” that addresses the concept of Non Formal Spaces of Education (ENFE)
or Non-School Spaces and the visit to the UFRRJ's Soil Museum of Brazil, this content will integrate the
programmatic menu. Chemistry Teaching 1 and 2, aiming to provide a better understanding of chemistry
undergraduates of the multiple possibilities of building knowledge of chemical concepts beyond school spaces.
