SUMMARY:

The concept of vacuum interferes with the understanding of various technologies present in contemporary society. However, high school students, despite being familiar with the use of these digital information and communication technologies (DICT), are laymen about their characteristics and how they work. The textbook is one of the most accessible vehicles for disseminating scientific knowledge to the student, especially during the remote teaching period. So, it is worth asking how the concept of vacuum is being presented in textbooks used in Brazilian Basic Education. Therefore, in this research we seek to identify the concept of vacuum presented in Physics textbooks for High School, approved under the National Textbook Program in our country. We are also looking for a product capable of producing significant learning about this concept. The teaching-learning method of traditional education discourages students and induces mechanical learning (Ausubel, 1963; 1968). To contribute to overcoming this remaining problem in Physics Teaching, we propose the Just-in-Time Teaching method (JiTT), which is an active teaching method. From the bibliographic research on the state of the art of the concept of vacuum, a teaching plan on the vacuum will be prepared to be applied in the third year of high school. The teaching plan on vacuum is composed of 6 topics distributed in 6 lessons of 50 minutes each. This JiTT methodology, proposed here, can also be used by other teachers for the elaboration of didactic sequences for other subjects of Physics and even extended to other disciplines.
