Stop Motion Animated Videos: CTS Approach to Science Teaching.
Science Education; Stop Motion Animation; Science; Technology and Society (CTS).
In the face of the information age that we live in, plus reflections on teaching practices, it can be observed that the way of consuming information has changed, as well as the need for preparation and insertion of technologies in the school environment, prioritizing developing in the new student the attitude reflective and critical about the world in which it is inserted. The present work aims to identify the potential of student production of Animation videos with the Stop Motion technique related to the theme of Cell Division, more precisely the process of Mitosis and Meiosis, in a Science, Technology and Society (STS) approach, observing students' perception of socio- scientific topics and their applications in everyday life. The research was carried out in the format of pedagogical workshops, at the Escola Estadual de Ensino Fundamental Pedro Canário Ribeiro, located in Pedro Canário/ES, with students from the 8th grade (8ºM01) of elementary school II. The methodological approach is qualitative and descriptive in nature, classified as a field study. Data collection took place through oral records, drawings with descriptive information, field diary and animations produced by the students. The records were transcribed with a reflective and critical approach, and subsequently analyzed using the content analysis technique. The organization followed the method of categories in charts and tables, where the information was grouped according to similar subjects or lines of thought, for analysis along with the theoretical support. The didactic-methodological strategy developed and applied, along with the theoretical framework of this research, served as the basis for the creation of a didactic-pedagogical material. This material includes the proposal of a didactic sequence approaching the theme Cell Division: Mitosis and Meiosis, under the STS approach, as well as the Freirian principles. In addition, the material includes a booklet intended for students, containing guidelines for the production of Stop Motion animations. The educational product will be aimed at basic education teachers and will be made available free of charge in the main databases across the country.
