This research addresses a pedagogical proposal for Mathematics classes in the final grades of Elementary School that discusses the learning of aspects of rational numbers, particularly in the transformation of fractions into decimals using a calculator, from the perspective of an investigative approach through open questions with the aim of promoting reflection on the discoveries. We began with an analysis of books from the 4th to 5th grades to identify how the authors approach the concept of rational numbers in its multiple facets. After a bibliographical research, we seek to develop and suggest tasks, through a sequence of questions that help students learn decimal numbers from the analysis of regularities in the transformation of fractions with denominators six into decimal numbers. The objective is to ensure significant learning of mathematics and promote reflective awareness for students in the final grades of Elementary School. This research is justified by the need to think of possibilities for teaching mathematics specifically to students in the 6th grade of Elementary School that would contribute to their better learning. Using qualitative methodology and participant observation, as a teacher at the school (teacher-researcher), data analysis was carried out through the teacher's records during the application of the students' tasks in the activity. It was noted in the research that the analysis of the 5th and 6th grade textbooks presented an approach very close to the content and, when developing the activities using the calculator, the students were able to identify patterns existing in the results. We also detected that the students had difficulty understanding and identifying the remainder and the quotient, that is, elements of the division algorithm.
