WHAT TEACHERS SAY ABOUT SCIENCE TEACHING IN THE NINE YEAR OF FUNDAMENTAL EDUCATION: THINKING THE INTERDISCIPLINARITY NEEDED
Teacher training; Science teaching; CurriculumIt is in the ninth grade of elementary school that, in general, students first encounter chemistry content in the science subject. It is at this moment that the first challenges of teachers facing the learning of this new knowledge will appear. Among the difficulties identified is the transition between phenomenological observations and scientific explanations, that is, understanding the dialectical relationship between model and reality, theory and phenomenon, an important characteristic of chemical science. In most schools in the various municipalities of Rio de Janeiro, Biological Science graduates are responsible for teaching Chemistry content in elementary school. However, it is possible to identify in the different training curricula of these teachers very little emphasis on chemistry, that is, the disciplines that deal with this knowledge are few and without articulation with the other areas of knowledge. In this perspective, the present research proposal has in the initial formation of teachers of Biological Sciences the main object of study. The objective is to investigate through research results and, also, from the reports of teachers of schools of the Rio de Janeiro municipal school system, the obstacles faced by teachers in the teaching of chemistry in ninth grade classes, as well as to discuss the initial formation of science teachers in an interdisciplinary perspective and their formation as a possible way to overcome obstacles in the process of teaching chemistry in elementary school. For the development of research will be conducted in a specific portal using keywords such as: science teachers, chemistry in elementary school, science teacher training, interdisciplinary teacher training. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with science teachers from schools in Rio de Janeiro. These results are expected to identify factors that unravel this problem, as well as gather, analyze, and interpret information that may contribute to the initial and continuing education of teachers.
