RESUMO:

In the present work is presented the research project with a view to qualification in the masters. The study is characterized in two main axes: firstly to search through the research subsidies for the understanding of the meaning of Science Fairs in Science Teaching for high school of the state public network of Rio de Janeiro, specifically in the João Köpke State College, where such activities have been taking place since 2008. The second axis focuses on the possibility of building together with the school community a new level of achievements related to the Science Fair venture in this educational institution. The Student Science Fairs have a tradition of more than five decades, happening in Brazil and Latin America since the 1960s as an opportunity for students to present their scientific school productions. In general, these events are presented to an audience other than the one who makes up the classroom environment. Given the importance of scientific fairs and their place in scientific literacy, it is necessary to understand how they happen in the school under study. Thus, the following question arose: what is the role of the science fair in the process of scientific literacy of teachers and students of basic education? For the development of the research we propose to analyze the opportunity that the Science Fairs can represent in order to build activities that promote a scientific literacy in a multidimensional perspective and also propose to develop, as a product of the dissertation, a "notebook" with principles and guidelines for the elaboration of Science Fair in this perspective.
