Ethnomathematics and Quilombola Education on Ilha da Marambaia in Mangaratiba-RJ: Connections between Local Crafts and School Practice
Ethnomathematics; Quilombola Education; Local Cultural Identity.
The teaching-learning process can be thought of in all its specificities. In this sense, popular and academic knowledge, taught in the classroom, can dialogue with each other. This research will seek to emphasize and value each one of these know-how in its own way and not being seen in a degree of superiority among them. It seeks to investigate and reflect on the possibilities of articulation between local cultural practices and the mathematical knowledge taught by the school, aiming to value the knowledge produced by the community, giving them a voice with their history, struggles and feelings. The central problem of this research is constituted as follows: How can Ethnomathematics contribute to the school mathematical learning and to the rescue of the local culture in the quilombola education of Ilha da Marambaia? The objectives are: to value and empower the knowledge produced by the residents, taking the local popular knowledge to school practice from the perspective of Ethnomathematics defended by Ubiratan D’Ambrosio (2019) in order to decolonize the hegemony of knowledge carried by the school curriculum. In this sense, we seek to develop a qualitative exploratory research of ethnographic characteristics, throughout the school year and acting as the unit's regent teacher, with visits to the community during school vacation periods, whose direct contact with students will take place outside the school environment. . The final results are intended to be a pedagogical practice closer to the reality of the students, with meaningful learning and the making of a final product that will be in the form of a Didactic Sequence that interconnects themes such as Crafts, school mathematics, local culture , Ethnomathematics, School Learning and the reality experienced by the quilombola remnants.
