SUMMARY:

The local transformations carried out altering the cultural identity of the Ilha da Madeira neighborhood, in the municipality of Itaguaí / RJ, and the school in the region does not develop educational activities and / or projects that rescue and value the knowledge placed locally on artisanal fishing. This research has as general objective to analyze some practices of the local artisanal fishing as well as the view of the actors of the municipal school located in the Island of Madeira in Itaguaí / RJ with respect to the actions of preservation of cultural identities. It is a research with ethnographic characteristics, in which it will be analyzed based on the triangulation method, which will work with the dimensions: (i) document analysis, (ii) semi-structured verification and (iii) non-participant observation. After the ethnography and analysis of the collected data, a proposal for a video documentary will be created to be used by teachers of the local school as an educational product, whose objective is to present the problem of the place and point out projects for mathematics classes, as well as for the other curricular components, so that the local cultural activities of the Island of Madeira, especially activities aimed at artisanal fishing, are valued in the school studied, with the aim of preserving and rescuing their local identity and establishing relationships with school mathematics by giving it more social meaning. It was noticed in the research that with the arrival of the industries the cultural identity of fishing in the place has changed, and in turn the school has not dialogued / discussed about this problem, as well as the school's mathematics teaching does not develop activities that value the artisanal fishing activity, as well as not using local ethnomathematics to preserve the cultural identity of fishing and dialogue with school mathematics. We also observed that activities aimed at valuing artisanal fishing activity at school, based on the investigation of the practices carried out by the students' ancestors, can preserve the cultural identity threatened with extinction and, even more, give more social meaning to school mathematical knowledge.
