SUMMARY:

The objective of this study was to investigate the conceptions of teachers and graduates in mathematics about the teaching of algebra in the final years of the EJA modality, about their initial training, to work in the EJA and understand their diversity and specificity, for this we use an online form, seven teachers participated in this research, we used qualitative research, we also conducted a theoretical study focused on the historical aspects of youth and adult education and for the definitions and legal aspects related to this modality, this study is important to understand the EJA and value its path and role before society, that is, its social and political importance. These studies indicate that the teachers participating in the research have many conceptions about the EJA, about the students of the EJA and the school daily life in this modality, some conceptions about the teaching of the EJA will also be analyzed according to the authors chosen as reference for this research, the tendency of critical mathematics to teach algebra in the EJA will also be mentioned in this work. The teachers participating in this research believe that in addition to teaching mathematics should also motivate their students, developing the self-esteem and autonomy of their students, thus reducing school dropout, they believe that the evaluation of behavior is important in the development of the student, even though adult students are aware that they should behave. These studies indicate that the participating teachers conceive the EJA as an opportunity for supply, as a second chance to finish their studies. About algebra and algebra teaching, words like generalization, equations, will be quoted by them in the form. Conceptions that algebra is an advance of arithmetic, consequently a generalization of arithmetic. Even though it is a restricted research, this study of the conceptions of the participants mathematics teachers and undergraduates, can contribute to improvement and quality in the teaching of algebra in the EJA modality.
