SUMMARY:

This work investigates the historical and epistemological challenges related to teaching negative numbers, with an emphasis on mathematical operations and the interpretation of these numbers. A survey will be carried out with undergraduate Mathematics students at UFRRJ. Initially, a questionnaire will be administered to collect personal information and prior knowledge about negative numbers from participants. Next, several pedagogical approaches to negative numbers and their operations will be developed and presented to students. Data collection will occur through field diaries, written responses in activities and audio and video recordings during the sessions. The analysis of this data will allow the creation of an educational product, consisting of a task guide. This script will offer suggestions that explore different pedagogical strategies for teaching integers, contributing to the educational practice of future teachers.
