Advances in technology and the evolution of financial services have brought not only benefits but also new economic risks, such as financial fraud. This research addresses Financial Education (FE) from a critical perspective, focusing specifically on this type of threat. The central problem of the investigation is: How can a workshop designed based on the principles of Critical Mathematics Education (CME) and the Mathematical Modeling methodology, using news and reports on financial fraud, promote a broader and more critical understanding of issues related to financial fraud among 9th grade students, fostering Financial Education? To answer this question, we propose a theoretical investigation on the concepts of FE, CME and Mathematical Modeling, as well as the development and implementation of a pedagogical workshop that uses reports on financial fraud to explore the topic with students. The general objective of the research is to promote FE, with an emphasis on the recognition and analysis of financial fraud, through a pedagogical workshop. Furthermore, we seek to disseminate the knowledge acquired through an educational strategy using the digital platform Instagram.
