SUMMARY:

The approach to socio-scientific issues - SSI has been recommended in Science Education curricula due to its potential in the school context. Researches argue that their discussion in the classroom makes scientific learning more relevant and meaningful, as it favors the articulation of scientific knowledge with quotidian knowledge. However, teachers have reported difficulties in addressing these issues due to a fragmented and solely disciplinary background, which limit the discussion of topics associated with different areas of knowledge. Thus, the present work aims to propose pedagogical activities with socio-scientific issues - SSI, to improve the learning of students of Natural Sciences, from the second segment of Elementary Education of Youth and Adult Education (YAE), in the city of Barra do Piraí. The methodological procedures used are qualitative approach and exploratory character, with data collection being carried out through documental research, dialogue with teachers and consultation with YAE students. The information obtained in this survey served as a subsidy for the delimitation of four themes: drugs, pandemic, sexuality and environmental themes and the script for educational activities that make up the “Activity Notebook”, the educational product of this dissertation, entitled “The Use of Socio-scientific Issues in Youth and Adult Education”. Therefore, it is expected that the activity notebook will be used as a pedagogical guidance tool and that it will contribute with information that will help teachers in the classroom, aiming at a teaching-learning process closer to the students' reality and that enable training for the exercise of citizenship.
