Ethnomathematics in family cooking: (re)signifying the concept of fraction from popular knowledge in an elementary school cla
Ethnomathematics; Family Cooking; Cultural Practice; Fractions.
This research was carried out with students of the 6th year of Elementary School of an educational institution located in the municipality of Itatiaia / RJ. It proposes to study the interaction between mathematics and culture, having Ethnomathematics as a theoretical contribution. To do so, it was based on the thoughts of D'Ambrosio (2015) in seeking evidence of the knowledge of the student and his family regarding the cuisine practiced that is his own and relating it to the school knowledge worked in the classroom. It aims to elaborate and analyze the application of a didactic sequence in the search for the (re)meaning of the concept of fraction, presented as a final product, with the purpose of helping teachers of mathematics and other areas to value the ethnomathematics present in family culinary practices of its students, in order to reinforce the preservation of the cultural identities of these actors. This is an applied research, with a qualitative approach and ethnographic inspiration. It uses participant observation, semi-structured interviews and document analysis as instruments for obtaining data, having as analysis the investigation by data triangulation. Through this work, it is clear that the activities carried out by the students indicate the possibility of continuing to investigate the parallelism between the applicability of academic mathematical concepts and the applicability of the same concepts used in the family environment.
