Health Education (HE) is a political-pedagogical process aimed at promoting the
teaching and learning of health-related topics within the educational system. This
allows for critical reflections on various social, economic, and environmental factors,
including food security, chronic diseases, and endemic issues such as the spread of
arboviruses by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. To understand how this theme is addressed
in the school environment, studies are needed on curriculum theories, the socio-
historical-cultural contexts that influenced the development of official curricular
documents, and HE practices, as well as an analysis of the didactic-pedagogical
resources used in this process. In this context, the main objective of this research is to
investigate academic productions from 2019 to 2023 related to didactic-pedagogical
resources used in teaching and learning about diseases and control of the Aedes aegypti
mosquito in the final years of Elementary School. Based on these studies, the
pedagogical goal was to develop an educational product—a didactic guide—to be used
in Science classes. The work was carried out in four stages: 1) theoretical and
historical foundation stage on Health Education, Curriculum Theories, and Didactic-
Pedagogical Resources; 2) systematic review stage to identify didactic-pedagogical
resources aimed at addressing the Aedes aegypti mosquito and its teaching in the final
years of Elementary School; 3) production stage of the didactic guide based on
resources selected during the systematic review; 4) stage of conducting interviews with
teachers from the second segment of elementary education to validate the application
of the didactic guide. The systematic review was conducted in databases such as
Google Scholar, CAPES Periodicals, and the proceedings of ENPEC XII, XIII, and
XIV (National Meeting on Research in Science Education), using descriptors: Health
Education, Aedes aegypti, and Didactic Resource with the boolean operator "AND."
After developing the didactic guide, it was applied by Science teachers, followed by an
evaluation of its application through interviews aimed at investigating the limitations
and contributions of the didactic guide. Among the limitations/difficulties presented by
teachers were an excess of information in slide presentations and in the stages of SD
(didactic sequences). Teachers reported difficulty managing all content outlined in the
school curriculum while including relevant topics such as addressing the Aedes aegypti
mosquito. This situation becomes even more challenging when proposed activities
require additional class time. Among its potentialities, they highlighted the
convenience of gathering different resources into a single material and accessibility for
reproducing materials. The students' protagonism in activities was also pointed out as a
positive aspect, demonstrating that by proposing transformative actions, students
develop autonomy in solving problems related to their reality.
