SUMMARY:

Financial literacy (FL) is fundamental for financial awareness and decision-making, and is recognized as an essential life skill by the Organization for Economic and Social Development (OECD). However, according to the National Institute of Studies and Educational Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP), a lack of financial literacy leaves people ill-equipped to make appropriate financial decisions, having adverse consequences for personal and global financial resilience. Therefore, this research seeks to reflect on financial literacy as a problem-solving and emancipatory educational practice for working-class students, mediated by the implementation of a portfolio of school projects within the Interdisciplinary Islands of Rationality model proposed by Fourez. The methodology used will be a qualitative approach, with an applied nature and exploratory objectives. Bibliographic, documentary, and field research will be used for data collection, using participant observation, field diaries, and interviews with various project participants as data collection instruments. The hypothetical-deductive, experimental, and observational methods proposed by Gil will be used for the analysis of the interviews. The Discourse Analysis method proposed by Eni P. Orlandi will be used for the analysis of the interviews. This work will be a dialogue between the empirical (common sense) knowledge of the students and the scientific knowledge through the construction of interdisciplinary projects. It aims to contribute to the discussion on financial literacy, its dissemination as a citizen's right, and the awareness of other education professionals about the benefits of this pedagogical proposal. Thus, it is hoped that this research will provoke reflections in students on mediated knowledge and its applications in various financial situations. It will contribute to the construction of knowledge in various areas, such as Mathematics, History, Humanities, and Natural Sciences, using financial literacy as a core theme, with pedagogical practices that can be replicated in different educational settings, raising questions for future research.
