AFROMATEMATICS IN BASIC EDUCATION: A PROPOSAL TO ADDRESS AFRICAN CULTURE THROUGH THE USE OF GAMES IN THE CLASSROOM
Ethnography; Ethnomathematics; Triangulation; Games; Afro-Brazilian Culture.
This paper proposes and analyzes the use of the African game called Mancala (Oware from Ghana) for the differentiated teaching of Mathematics in Basic Education. This proposal aims to focus on the 6th grade of elementary school by showing that, through it and through didactic sequences to be proposed by this research, it can obtain satisfactory results in the development of deductive mathematical thinking of the student and, even more, corroborate in solving problems proposed through games from other cultures. Through Law 10.639 / 03 which addresses the inclusion and the obligation of the theme "Afro-Brazilian History and Culture" in the official curricula of the Education Network in Brazil, such research will be proposed and, in addition, will establish dialogues between ethnic-racial relations and other content worked at school based on the Ethnomathematic Approach, creating possibilities for a positive referencing of the people and culture of the African Continent, re-signifying the simplistic, folkloric and prejudiced imaginary about our African origins and their influence on identity formation. Brazilian The use of African games is a way of demystifying that mathematics is only taught through a more conservative and traditional pedagogical approach, but also to show that the teaching-learning process can be more significant in terms of the identity of the Brazilian people, leading elementary school students interacting with different ways of mathematizing, in addition to those western strands that are taught in current curriculum.
